This past weekend the drivers and crew for H-Town racing were very busy. The team fielded five cars out of the H-Town shop. The Lucas Oil Modified series presented by Rock Star, was visiting the Bullring for race number 7 of the series. The team fielded four cars in that division, Pat Petrie in the number 1 car, Tom Pfundstein in the 1H , Jim Petrie in the 5, and Bear Reznowiecky in the 95.

The weekend started off Friday with practice and the 95 car of Reznowiecky was fast right out of the gate, the number 5 car of Jim Petrie was solid but need a little bit of tuning, and Pfundstein need as many laps as he could get in the seat of his new lefthander modified, to get comfortable with the big engine. The number 1 modified of Pat Petrie had tranny issues and the crew had to swap the transmission. At the end of the night Friday everthing seemed to be on track for a decent weekend,

Saturday, the 22 car modified field took the green and the the 1 of Pat Petrie finished 10th, the 1H oh Pfundstein was 14th, ,while the 5 of Jim Petrie made an early exit due to overheating issues and ended up 20th, the 95 of Reznowiecky was running a solid 6th when his night came to an end with motor issues as well. “Overall it wasn’t a bad night, we could have qualified better but the race went fairly well, and we will build on it for the next race at I10 speedway in Blyth on October 1st “ said Pat Petrie.

Jeff Bargerhuff was scheduled to pilot the number 1 NASCAR Charger but was unable to do so due to a sore neck that was a result of a crash in the Super Late Model on September 3rd. Mario Opipari, who normally drive the Performance Plus, Pickart’s Radiator number 53 drove the car. Mario finished took home a 2nd place finish.

H-Town racing would like to thanks all the fans who came out to support us on Saturday, including the staff from Findlay Chevrolet, Manny Abeyta from the Club Fortune Casino, and John Hefty of Create A Book and Dave Redden. As well as all of our family and friends. And we would like to give special thanks to our wives for all the support, Vicki Petrie, Erin Petrie, and Lynn Pfundstein. As well as the crew Joe Petrie, Sonny Whal, Zack Cranford, Kevin Terrell, and John Wright.

The HTown racing modified drivers could have had a better weekend in Madera, California on July 16th. The number 1H modified, driven by Tom Pfundstien was plagued with mechanical problems from the time it rolled off the trailer. On Friday at practice the car wouldn’t run and it was determined it was the carburetor that was the issue, the spare was bolted on and it seemed to be fine. Tom was learning the grove and getting comfortable in the car and then he started having issues with the steering. The crew decided to get to the track early Saturday and get the bugs worked out of the 1H mod. As soon as Tom went to practice the car it began having more carb issues, it was apparent this was going to be a long day for Tom. After a total troubleshoot on the car Tom qualified in the 23rd spot putting him in the B-main for the evening. In order to transfer to the A-main Tom need a 4th or better in the 20 lap B. After some more work on the car Tom was able to have a good run in the B –main and grab the 4th spot, ensuring him a spot in the feature event. When the 23car field rolled off for the feature, more carb problems and steering issues, Tom pulled in the pits for the crew to take a look, with nothing obviously wrong the 1h tried to rejoin the field. When the car left the pits it had no clutch. The night was over for the 1h, and Pfundstein had to settle for 23rd.
Pat Petrie’s number 1 mod was decent right off the trailer. Pat qualified 13th, which put him solidly in the feature event. Pat was able to get some good laps early in the event getting up to the 10th spot. Then a caution flew. With the impending restart it looked like the number 1 mod was going to have a decent night that was until the green flag flew again. It seemed as though Pat was having issues getting the car up to speed and had to settle for a 14th place finish. “The car was very good early in the race, then we had a restart and I lost focus and didn’t do my job, I used up the tires trying to make up for my mistake” said Petrie. “Joe and Sonny and the rest of the crew did their job and I let them down this week, I can promise that won’t happen when we roll into Irwindale Speedway on August the 13th.”

By Dave Grayson http://www.racemadera.com

The anticipated excitement is growing rapidly surrounding the official debut of the Dart Machinery LTD North-South Shootout, a special two race points series presented by the Lucas Oil Modified Racing Series and Rockstar Energy Drink. The green flag will officially fall on the first race of the Shootout on July 16th at the Madera Speedway, the fastest one third mile in the west. The second event of the series, scheduled for August 13th, will be held at the Toyota Speedway At Irwindale, the fastest half mile oval in the southwest.

This spectacular series, within a series, will pit the talents of the Lucas Oil Modified Racing Series teams, curently racing in southern California, Arizona and Nevada, against the equally talent modified racing contemporaries from northern California, as well as Idaho, Oregon and Washington. Hence the name North-South Shootout.

Another huge aspect of the special series debut involves yet another debut. The Lucas Oil Modified Racing Series, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink will be making their official debut at the Madera Speedway on July 16th. There’s a very special reason why the Madera Speedway is known as “the fastest one third mile in the west” and the Lucas Oil Modified teams will be finding why that night. The speedway is lightning fast with sweeping high banks that allows a lot of room for passing. The laps go by very quickly which means it will be “go time” for the drivers the moment the green flag falls on the Dart Machinery LTD North-South Shootout 75 lap main event.

Kenny Shepherd, the Madera Speedway President and General Manager, is very excited to host the Lucas Oil Modified teams and he’s especially pleased that the inagural Dart Machinery LTD North-South Shootout will be held at his speedway. “We’ve had a lot of question and answer conversations with drivers and race teams over the past few months about this event,” Shepherd said adding “there has been a lot of talk about the North-South Shootout as well as a lot of anticipation from our fans about the series coming to the Madera Speedway.”

Shepherd’s style of promoting a Saturday night race often involves large scale, elaborate, shows that always insures his fans receives the highest bang for their ticket bucks. Commenting recently on his special Madera Speedway shows, he said “at the beginning of the 2010 season, we factured in the tight economic conditions and offered our fans budget shows. To our surprise we were told by the fans that they much prefered the bigger shows even if some of them meant a higher ticket price for a special evening. These larger shows are very much worth our while and produce a high level of success.”

Shepherd and his staff has already gone all out to promote their July 16th evening at the Madera Speedway in a very large scale fashion. The evening has been officially named “Summertime Horse Power presented by Lucas Oil.” In addition to the debut of the Dart Machinery LTD North-South Shootout, the speedway will also be presenting high flying action from the 410/360 Super Modifieds and round four of their Super Saturday Series presented by Coors Light. The Bay Cities Racing Association, BRCA, will also be on hand that night to treat the fans to their intense brand of open wheel racing with their midget and vintage sprint/midget divisions. There will also be a special guest appearance from the Western All Star Super Late Models as well as action from the speedway’s Hobby Stock and Four Banger divisions. Now that’s giving the fans more bang for their ticket bucks.

The debut of the Dart Machinery LTD North-South Shootout is a dream come true, and the culmination of some careful planning and hard work, by officials from the Lucas Oil Modified Racing Series. Series Race Director Bill Rozhon is very excited that this long awaited project is finally going to become a reality and recently said “Madera is going to be a good night, and if what we’re hoping and what we’re hearing all comes together, we’re going to have a pretty good field of north and south cars. Our guys are definitely looking forward to going to Madera to meet new racers from the north end and I’m sure the north guys are coming with the same attitude that we have.”

Series Promoter Greg Scheidecker is a veteran racer who actually raced at the Madera Speedway while participating in the former NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Tour Series, as did Madera Promoter Kenny Shepherd. “It’s my understanding that the race track really hasn’t changed that much,” Scheidecker said adding “it’s going to be very interesting to see north-south teams together in that type of atmosphere at their home turf. We’re going to the north and most of our drivers has never run on that race track. Right now I’d say that a lot of the favortism might be leaning towards the north teams.”
Jeff Stephens is also extremely excited about the Dart Machinery LTD North-South Shootout. Stephens is the owner of Fire House Racing, a unique racing team consisting of Sacramento-California area firemen. They will be towing their modfied, driven by Rich Lindgren, to Madera to participate in the shootout. That will happen after Stephens takes care of important official duty scheduled for July 7th. That’s when he will officially retire after 30 years of protecting and serving the citizens of his community as a fire fighter with the Sacramento Metro Fire Department.

Referred to by Scheidecker as one of the North-South Shootout’s biggest cheerleaders, Stephens has more than proven that by going all out to promote the special series’ two races at the north end. Stephens believes that there is going to be a very healthy modified car count at Madera with at least 15 cars from both regions capable of winning the race. He fully expects northern California modified teams to make the two to Madera from their home tracks in Ukiah, Shasta and Roseville.

“For this project to work it first took a certain level of cooperation”, Stephens said adding “Greg Scheidecker and Bill Rozhon made that first step by implementing some rule changes that made it possible for the teams from the two regions to race together. The Lucas Oil Modified Racing Series is a first class operation. Greg and Bill go all out to make anyone who races in their series feel welcome. That includes giving the teams a selection of Lucas Oil products. It’s little things like that guesture that really makes a difference,” he said.

Stephens truly wants to see this project work and thinks it has a very bright future. He acknowledges the fact that the first year of the Shootout will require some minor adjustments such as the area of tire manufacturers. The northern teams use Goodyear while the southern teams race on Hoosiers. However, Stephens believes these are areas that can be easily addressed and reconciled. He can easily see this series being around for many years to come and would love to see a location trade off where the south teams head north to race on the tracks located there. He also beleives that the teams he races with will be very impressed adding “the northern California teams needs to find out that the Lucas Oil Modified Racing Series is a first class operation.”

However, there’s another major why this two race series is going to generate a lot of attention. That’s because the Dart Machinery LTD North-South Shootout is a very lucrative racing proposition. The July 16th inaugural event, at the Madera Speedway, is a 75 lap event featuring a full field of 22 cars racing for a combined purse of $10,000, with $1,500 going to the winner. Any driver in the field is guaranteed at least $300 for just starting the 75 lap feature.
In addition to the highly lucrative purse available from these races, the driver who scores the highest amount of points in the Dart Machinery LTD North-South Shootout will recieve a set of small block heads from Dart Machinery for either a Ford or Chevrolet engine. The points champion will receive his choice of either a set of PRO-1 or Iron Eagle heads, steel or aluminum. The value of this special prize is approximately $1,000.

For more information, regarding the Dart Machinery LTD North-South Shootout, contact Greg Scheidecker, 1 800 342 2512, Bill Rozhon 1 928 716 6300 or Kenny Shepherd, Madera Speedway, 209 384 9500. You can also dial up their websites at www.lucasoilmodifieds.com or www.RaceMadera.com.
The Lucas Oil Modified Racing Series, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink, is supported by a highly potent marketing concept known as “Team Lucas.” Team members include Lucas Oil Products Inc, Magnaflow Exhaust Products, E3 Spark Plugs, General Tire, K&N Performance Filters, GEICO, CANIDAE All Natural Pet Food, MAV TV, Dart Machinery LTD, Rockstar Energy Drink and Master Craft Safety Equipment.

The series is also strongly supported by a group of associate sponsors featuring Eibach Springs, Hoosier Tire West, Budweiser, Blue Water Resort and Casino, Sunoco Race Fuels, Frank’s Radio, Racing Plus, Roush Yates Performance Parts and J E Pistons.

The night’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series action will include twin 35-lap features for the NASCAR Super Late Models. Completing the bill will be the NASCAR Chargers, NASCAR Bombers, Legend Cars, Thunder Roadsters and Bandoleros.

Saturday’s race marks the return of popular veteran and past Bullring champion Chuck Trickle to the oval-track arena. Trickle will compete in a NASCAR Charger fielded by the H-Town Racing Team. The annual event is dedicated to Chuck’s late son Chris.

“Chuck has not participated in the event since 2009 and when we heard he might want to race, we were honored to have him join our team for the event.” said H-Town Racing member Tom Pfundstein. “It has been a community effort to get this car ready for Chuck to drive. Those helping in the effort include past Charger champion Phil Goodwin, who did all of the chassis set up. American Racing Supply provided a set of new tires. Parson’s Auto body put a fresh coat of paint on the car and M&M Graphics will be providing the graphics. It will be exciting, as well as an honor, to get Chuck back out on the track. It is the least we can do for a man who has dedicated himself to his family and the sport of auto racing in the Las Vegas Valley.”

Spectator gates will open at 5 p.m. for this event. General admission parking always is free.
McMorran, who drove the number 1 Southern Nevada PDCA/FCA, Findlay Chevrolet, Wahl Traction Super Late Model for the first time this season, put on in a good performance even though his nigh was cut short due to overheating problems. McMorran qualified 7 turning the 3/8 mile oval in 15.17 seconds. The field was very tight as the first seven qualifiers were only separated by .10 seconds. At the drop of the green flag McMorran quickly moved up to the 2 spot within the first 10 laps of the 40 lap feature event. By lap 12 he was pressuring eventual race winner Bear Rzesnowiecky. It appeared McMorran was going to be able to challenge the fellow Wahl Traction sponsored Rzesnowiecky. On lap 22 McMorran has to exit the racing surface due to mechanical problems. The H-Town team was extremely excited about the performance and is looking forward to the Chris Trickle Father’s Day double header at the bullring on June 18, 2011.

Jim Petrie drove the number 12 Southern Nevada PDCA/FCA, Findlay Chevrolet, Pickart & Sons Radiator Chevy Camero in the Charger division. It was apparent early in the evening that Petrie would have a fast car. In the heat race Petrie started in the back of the eight car field, but by the time the checkered flag flew, Petrie crossed the line in 3 position. The main event started with Petrie on the pole position. Petrie lead the first eight laps of the event when an early caution flag flew. On the double file restart , the car pushed up just enough to allow a freight train of cars to get by on the inside. Petrie was pushed back to the sixth spot. With a caution on lap 24 of the 25 lap race, it set up a green flag-checkered flag finish. When the green flag flew again, Petrie was able to pull off a great restart and coming to the checkered flag he finished in 5th position. It was the best finish of the year for the car in the Charger division.

The drivers were accompanied by Shock Builder Sonny Wahl, of Wahl Traction, as well as crew members Dave Redden and Zack Cranford. “The experience Sonny has at this place will be very important for our team, he has won multiple races and a track championship here in the Super Late Models as a crew chief. “ I am really looking forward to the race on June 4th, this place is a blast” said Pfundstein.
